Your Personal Growth Plan: The Secret To Supercharging Your Goals This Year

Even if you’re already working hard to level-up your brand, there’s a strong possibility that working hard isn’t going to cut it this year. 

So in this post, we’re highlighting the power of a personal growth plan so you’re armored up with the skills, mindset, and know-how you need to face whatever comes your way.

And if we’re honest, as creators, leaders, and entrepreneurs, we spend most of our working hours getting stuff done. 

After all, that’s what we should be doing… or is it?

You won’t find a stronger proponent of hard work than this girl over here, but I’ve also recognized throughout the years that hard work isn’t nearly enough. 

You have to be smart about your growth, and sadly, when it comes to growth, we tend to put our companies needs above our own.

As John C. Maxwell said, ”Growth is the great separator between those who succeed and those who do not. When I see a person beginning to separate themselves from the pack, it’s almost always due to personal growth.”  

So, if you’re going to stand out and face the challenges this New Year will inevitably bring, you have to start with you.

 Here are the three big tips on how to plan your personal growth this year.


Many entrepreneurs, creatives, and leaders show up to their lives with zero game plan, and they expect to grow as they start taking action. 

And while it’s super important to take action, even if your plan is not perfect, you have to be intentional about growing; not just to consume information but implement it and follow-through like a pro (2021 pretty much demands it of us).

I’d love to share this nifty chart with you; this is from John C. Maxwell’s 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth. 

And I love how it visually showcases the difference between accidental and intentional growth.


Over the years, I’ve seen the power of reflection and analysis play a massive role in my growth. So as I crafted a goal-setting system (what we now call The Prosper Plan), I realized I needed to go a little further if I wanted to create lasting, measurable change in my business and life.

I needed a plan to detect which areas of my life needed development to grow in those areas and reach my goals. And after being exposed to John C. Maxwell’s work, well, let’s just say, I got all the validation I need.

So, take a hard look at what you’re trying to achieve this year.

Where do you see a growing gap that needs to be filled? 

How can you foresee that need to develop in new areas and create a plan? 

For example, if you’re familiar with the book Good To Great, one of my goals this year is to help 3 of my organization’s leaders go from level 1 leaders to level 3 leaders.

That goal requires me to take a step back and ask myself, what areas do I need to improve to help them reach that goal?

And the answer, once again, is in my own leadership skills. I have to create a plan around developing my skillset so I can enable them to develop theirs.


Intention and motivation are not enough to succeed in your personal growth plan. You need to build a habit.

Figure out what are the key habits and create a timeframe.

Let’s say you wanted to build a habit of reading a book and finishing two books a month. A key habit that would help support you in doing so is setting out an alarm clock and creating a timeframe where you’re going to be reading for 15 to 20 minutes every day and build that into your routine.  Bonus points if you set a reward and some consequences if you do or do not follow through with your habits.



Remember, to create a great personal growth plan, you need to be number one, be intentional, number two identify what areas in your life need improvement, and number three, you want to develop habits that support your personal growth plans.
