Whether you’re thinking about launching an online business, or you’re already established, chances are, you’ve probably thought about writing a business plan at one point or another.

So is it actually necessary to have a traditional 60-page business plan that details every single aspect of your company?

I think not.

So in today’s episode, I’m going to show you how to create a one-page business plan with simple but important questions you should be asking yourself and every single stage of your online business.

This entire process is inspired by our six-stage success path inside The Business Lounge

As you can see, it’s broken down into six clear stages:

  1. Validate
  2. Launch
  3. Hustle
  4. Breakthrough
  5. Profit
  6. Scale.

What are you selling?

Sounds basic, but throughout this process, basic is your friend.

Is there a market for it? If so, who will buy it?

So the key here is to clarify your market for the offers you’ll be selling.

As one of my mentors says, “emulate before you innovate.” Unless you have access to endless capital, it’s critical that we’re entering an existing market.

Next, get clear on who’s going to purchase this product.

Figuring out who your ideal client is so important. You want to spend a good amount of time doing research figuring out who this person is.

Emulate before you innovate. So for solopreneurs and small business owners like you and me, we want to make sure that we’re already entering an existing market.

How does your business serve people?

You want to make sure that you’re digging deep and figuring out how you’re going to serve and differentiate yourself.
Are there any gaps in the existing market you can fill?
What are your competitors doing right and wrong?

How much will you charge?

What is the price point of your product program or service? There’s a whole art and science to pricing. But when it comes down to it, pricing is subjective. So you want to make sure that you are starting at a price point that is competitive with the market and then increase your price over time as you add more value and get clear on your brand’s positioning.

What’s your predicted monthly revenue?

This is a key question and most people don’t really answer or stop to think about when they’re launching a new business or trying to grow or scale an existing one. So you want to look at your product, you want to look at your price, and you want to look at how much money you want to make every single month. Do the math and figure out the numbers.

Where will you establish your online presence?

You want to figure out where you’re going to establish yourself online, a website, social media handles secure all of that. Have that clear intention, and make sure that you document and write it down.

How will your customer hear about you?

Whether you want to go with ads or you want to have a more organic strategy where maybe you’re blogging and podcasting and creating content, building your email newsletter, or a combination of both of those.

What does your marketing strategy entail?

You want to outline what your marketing strategy  should look like, and if you need a little extra help, check out this episode and this article.

How will you expand your reach?

Some questions you need to focus on in this stage are how you can go from where you are right now to where you need to be? How can you scale up and start thinking bigger?

What are some passive income opportunities that may come your way?

And this stage, you might want to think ahead. How can you start creating more passive income opportunities to help you scale in the next few stages?

So this is where you might consider having something like digital downloads, templates, client audits, something that you can offer that’s less time-consuming for you.

How will you uplevel your customer experience?

How can you take things to the next level with your onboarding process, with your sales process, how your customers interact with your brand once they buy from you? These processes are so important to start thinking about even if you don’t have detailed ideas.

How can you delegate more to a team?

I think as entrepreneurs, we tend to pile a lot of responsibility on our plate. As you leave your company, think about better and more significant ways of reaching your customers. And let your team be that support structure that helps and keeps the company moving forward.

What key partnership can you develop to increase your profits?

There are so many key relationships that you want to develop in this stage that will really help you get to that next level.

What revenue milestone do you need to reach in this stage?

You want to get clear about your money. Again, going back to that question that we talked about in the launch stage, you want to ask yourself, what are my revenue milestones?

What visibility channels do you want to scale up?

This can really range from being on TV, doing an infomercial, all the way to really leveraging Instagram and Facebook and non-traditional media outlets, or maybe it just means that you’re going to be creating more partnerships with influencers and people who have a larger email list and can give you that special advantage that you need to get the word out about your company.

What are some strengths and weaknesses you need to leverage or overcome?

I’m sure that you have a clear picture right now of what strengths you have, as an entrepreneur, what strengths your company has. Also, what are the weaknesses that you have right now and you need to overcome, or that you need to figure out how to navigate so that you can continue to move forward.
